MTAP 2010 - Pakistan's most comprehensive engineering showcase

Source: Release Date:2010-12-21 124
Pakistan's manufacturing sector holds the second largest position in the overall economy. The government aims to shift its focus from agriculture to engineering industry in order to support other industries with strong export potential. Twenty-five percent of the domestic demand of the engineering sector is met by the local industry, while the remaining is catered through imports. The government also aims to increase the share of engineering in the manufacturing sector to 30% through various sub-sectors both in heavy engineering and light engineering. Pakistan is a growing market for automobiles and auto parts, offering various business and investment opportunities in this region. The automobile sector directly employs 192,000 workers and contributes 16% input to the manufacturing sector. Further, the vehicle population of Pakistan has surpassed 8.8 million units giving rise to demand for auto parts. The local spare parts manufacturing in Pakistan is approximately US$1 billion per annum, catering 22% to total demand. However, 78% demand is still met by imports. The growth in the engineering industry is aimed at introducing process efficiencies leading to technological up-gradation at different levels of manufacturing processes. The major industrial sectors in Pakistan with extensive application of process engineering include pharmaceutical, food and beverages, cement, petrochemical and textiles. These sectors have high export potential and are making significant progress to improve production, meet international quality standards and subsequently support national economy by import substitution. After the success of five consecutive events the 6th International Machine Tools & Automation Exhibition - MTAP 2010 will once again showcase a broad array of manufacturing equipment and technology. The show will also incorporate an automotive technology section in order to provide a complete engineering event in Pakistan. It is scheduled to be held from 11 to 13 November 2010, at the Karachi Expo Centre. MTAP 2009 had the participation of 25 companies representing over 100 overseas principals from 30 countries including USA, Germany, Japan, France, Singapore, Brazil, UAE and India. It was visited by more than 7,500 business professionals from the related industries. The show was supported by Board of Investment (BOI), Engineering Development Board (EDB), Pakistan Engineering Council, Textile Machinery Manufacturers & Suppliers Association of Pakistan (TEXMAP), Pakistan Foundry Association (PFA) and Pakistan Automobile Spare Parts, Importers & Dealers Association (PASPIDA). The event received extensive coverage by local and international media including 19 publications from countries like China, USA, Singapore, Turkey and Spain. Moreover, the Second Foundry Workshop was organised in concurrence with the exhibition in which the eminent speakers shared their valuable knowledge and experiences with the audience. Machine Tools & Automat ion Pakistan has made its mark in the regional engineering industry as a comprehensive showcase of the latest equipment and technology. This year the show will offer rewarding opportunities to its participants by creating a perfect networking platform for establishing new contacts and strengthening existing ones. MTAP 2010 will also feature an exclusive workshop, which will provide a thorough technical insight in the latest manufacturing processes and techniques. In addition, it will update the industrialists with innovative ideas and research papers by various renowned figures. Together, the exhibition and the workshop will present a value added event for the participants to explore the regional manufacturing industry.
