Nespresso launches coffee programme in Ethiopia, Kenya

AS PART of its socio-economic and environmental initiatives, Nespresso said it would extend the AAA Sustainable Quality Programme to smallholder farmers in Ethiopia and Kenya, with the aim of doubling the amount of coffee it sources from these two countries to 10,000 tonnes by 2020. The company will par tner with local governments and non-profit organisation, TechnoServe, to improve coffee sustainability at farm level, whilst launching social development programmes to support the welfare of farmers and communities. Nespresso also plans to revive coffee production in South Sudan.

The AAA Programme was developed 10 years ago in cooperation with the Rainforest Alliance to secure high-quality coffee whilst improving sustainable farming practices and enhancing farmer welfare.
