Nespresso has unveiled its socio-economic and environmental initiatives to mark the 10th anniversary of its AAA Sustainable Quality Program, during the first meeting of its sustainability advisory board in Switzerland.
These initiatives carry on the company’s AAA Program, developed 10 years ago in co-operation with the Rainforest Alliance to secure the highest quality coffee whilst improving sustainable farming practices and enhancing farmer welfare. Last year, Nespresso had sourced up to 70% of coffee from 52,000 farmers who are part of the programme. It aims to increase this to 80% by the end of 2013.
The advisory board, whose task is to provide sustainability strategy, is comprised of Harriet Lamb, CEO of Fairtrade International; Tensie Whelan, president of the Rainforest Alliance; Auret Van Heerden, president and CEO of the Fair Labor Association; and George Clooney, actor and Nespresso brand ambassador.
