Avery Dennison extends broad European food-approved portfolio with new topcoat

A NEW food-approved topcoated product has been added to the already extensive Avery Dennison food labelling film portfolio. The addition means that Avery Dennison now offers the widest range of food-approved films in Europe, with materials that can support a large variety of food labelling conditions.

PP60 Top Cavitated White Film with S2045N hotmelt adhesive and a food-approved topcoat is the latest material in the food-approved portfolio. This topcoat, which joins the existing TC7007 topcoat in the Avery Dennison standard film range, complies with Article 3.1.a of Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, and can be used in any food application, including chilled conditions that require higher performance levels.

Rob Groen in 't Wout, senior product manager for filmic label materials, Label and Packaging Materials - Europe, said Avery Dennison’s goal is to do everything possible to make food labelling choices simple and productive.

“There are plenty of challenges in the food segment, but the most critical one faced by all food producers today is the tough regulatory environment. Food directives and regulations apply to face materials, adhesives and topcoats, and need to be taken into account when deciding on the label construction,” he commented. “Avery Dennison’s newly expanded food-approved portfolio makes it far easier to choose the right look, the right cost and the right performance characteristics.”

The comprehensive food-approved range ensures not only regulatory compliance but also successfully meets many typical application challenges, including labelling cold and moist surfaces traditionally found in chilled products such as dairy, cheese, and meats. Avery Dennison’s S2045N hotmelt adhesive is an important contributor to the portfolio’s performance, giving excellent tack and adhesion on a wide variety of substrates.

Mr. Groen in 't Wout added that label converters now have one place where they can go for any food-related requirement: “Food producers can find all of their required options in this portfolio, and there is no additional time or effort needed to make sure that regulations have been met,” he said.
