WITH several plans underway in Vietnam, Cargill is showing the importance of this market for its products, particularly animal feed for livestock and aquatic species marketed to feed manufacturers and vertically integrated producers. The company also said it would take part in the construction of 25 schools in local communities.
Animal feed
In Binh Duong province, the company has earmarked US$30 million to put up an animal feed mill in partnership with Saigon International Terminals Vietnam (SITV), which is a member of the Hutchison Port Holdings, a port investor, developer and operator with global operations.
The animal feed mill in Binh Duong – Cargill’s 12th animal nutrition production facility in Vietnam – will open in 2017. It will house advance technologies and accommodate 260,000 metric tons per year. It follows an on-going construction of a feed mill in Nghe An which is expected to operate next year.
The company has also invested $7 million for the expansion of its existing animal feed mill in Dong Thap.
Grains and oilseeds
Cargill provides an integrated supply chain solution for grains and oilseeds to its customers in Vietnam. A new $10 million agreement with SITV for 80,000 metric ton of warehousing facilities at the SITV port in Phu My will facilitate the storing and distribution of grains and oilseeds for Cargill’s customers and give them a distinct competitive advantage.
The company supplies soy bean meal, wheat, and sugar, as well as supply corn, copra meal and canola meal. Customers include animal feed producers, integrated fish processors, food and beverage manufacturers as well as flour millers.
Giving back to communities
Cargill has been in Vietnam for the past 20 years, and through its employee-led volunteering program, the company is giving back to rural communities by helping build schools. In addition to completing its initial goal of 75 schools by the end of this year, the company pledged to put up another 25. School #75 located in Phu Xuyen district was recently inaugurated by Cargill Chairman and CEO David MacLennan.
