Source:University of Oklahoma Release Date:2012-09-10 221
Medical Equipment

OKLAHOMA – A new iPhone app, called iCath, was developed by a group of cardiologists from the University of Oklahoma to assist health care professionals in determining the appropriateness of diagnostic angiography and revascularization in particular situations.

The app is based on the updated 2012 appropriateness criteria published in the Journal of American College of Cardiology. The guidelines were made based on data, best practices, and expert opinion in regards to performing angiography and revascularization in cardiac patients.

The indications of the app are in a simple, color-coded format: green for appropriate, yellow for uncertain, and red for inappropriate. The app addresses 166 separate indications for cardiac angiography and 180 clinical scenarios for revascularization. It follows a simple topic-based scroll and click format, leading ultimately to a conclusion that performing the procedure is appropriate, uncertain, or inappropriate.

More information on the app can be found on the product page www.icathapp.com.
