Royal Philips Electronics showcased a new Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) at ECR 2011 in Vienna, Austria. The Philips Media Distribution Center (MDC) Enterprise PACS R2.3 facilitates the dissemination of diagnostic imaging beyond the radiology department, enabling Web-based access both throughout the hospital and remotely. The system delivers an easy-to-use, simple-to-install image management system that is both more flexible and less costly to purchase and run than conventional PACS.
"We believe that the MDC Enterprise PACS R2.3 is a very attractive solution for hospitals ranging from single-site institutions to hospitals with multiple sites. MDC has been developed for markets where cost of ownership is a key requirement. MDC Enterprise PACS enables physicians to access information anywhere, facilitating faster decisions and therefore improving patient management," said Ilan Fingeret, Senior Product Manager at Philips.
Designed for easy self-management and administration, MDC Enterprise PACS R2.3 requires only standard hardware, fitting into existing IT infrastructures and allowing data to be backed up in a wide range of standard storage devices. Software is regularly updated to prevent obsolescence, and comprehensive remote support is easily available. The system is readily expandable to meet growing user needs.
The solution offers a single viewing environment and embedded clinical packages to fully support radiologists during the reporting process. Developed to be simple from the start, it features easy-to-use clinical applications and tools for imaging modalities and has been designed for users to maintain and operate themselves. Many imaging specialists' requirements (e.g., radiology, cardiology, nuclear medicine, and oncology) are addressed through a single PACS solution with a single database, archive, and viewing platform. The solution provides remote access to images, reports, and attachments from virtually anywhere within the hospital or remote sites. This capability ensures instant distribution to users who depend on radiological results. Images and reports can be distributed via remote access, email, or CD/DVD.
MDC Enterprise PACS R2.3 will be initially available in selected European and Latin American markets and the Far East, with a view of expanding to other markets in the coming years.
