New MRI System

Source:Siemens Healthcare Release Date:2012-05-02 203

Magnetom Spectra MRI System is the new scanner characterized by both premium imaging and reduced total cost of ownership. Magnetom Spectra also boasts of excellent image quality, fast scan times, and efficient and easy operation.

The new Magnetom Spectra employs Total imaging matrix (Tim) 4G technology, the latest Siemens coil generation. Because of its modern array structure that allows for high spatiotemporal resolution and its

good signal-to-noise ratio, Tim 4G delivers outstanding image quality. Images of similar quality could only be produced by 3 T high-end systems that require higher investment, but Magnetom Spectra provides premium imaging for clinical routine despite tight budgets and intense time pressure.

With regard to reduced total cost of ownership, Magnetom Spectra consumes lower energy compared to common 3 T scanners. The helium used to cool the magnet is contained in a closed loop; thus, the costly gas does not escape and therefore does not need to be refilled. The cable-less direct-connect coils allow for quick and easy setup; up to 120 coil elements can be combined together in a flexible manner. Even large scans with large anatomical coverage, up to whole-body scans (205 cm), can be performed in a single exam without having to reposition the patient or the coils. Magnetom Spectra is equipped with the MRI workflow solution Day Optimizing Throughput (Dot) that allows easy and fast selection of the best scan strategy based on the patient’s condition and the clinical indication. With Tim and Dot technologies, high-quality images can be produced in less time.

Magnetom Spectra can be used from diagnosis of damaged cartilage in the ankle to dynamic exam of the abdominal area and functional imaging of the brain. Magnetom Spectra will be available in the second half of 2012 and is part of Agenda 2013.1

1 Launched in November 2011, Agenda 2013 is a 2-year global initiative to further strengthen Siemens Healthcare’s innovative power and competitiveness. Specific measures will be implemented in four fields of action: Innovation, Competitiveness, Regional Footprint, and People Development.
