New phytosterol range for heart health

DANISCO said it is enhancing its cardiovascular health platform by teaming up with US-based Arboris, the world's largest producer of pine-derived phytosterols. The phytosterols produced by Arboris are also derived from a more stable raw material source compared to the alternative phytosterol raw material – soy deodorised distillate – ensuring sustainable growth opportunities.
Arboris' large-scale production and integrated access to pine tall oil, the key raw material, will provide Danisco with high-purity free and esterified phytosterols. The companies agree that there is a large market growth potential by geographical expansion, and the opportunities specifically presented in the developing health and nutrition arena.      Danisco will launch the new phytosterol range as part its cardiovascular health platform in May.
Regulatory  authorities  worldwide  have  recognised  phytosterols  for  their cardiovascular health benefit. The global phytosterol market, currently estimated at more than $300 million and growing 7 to 9 per cent annually.
