New study validates NutroxSun suncare efficacy

MONTELOEDER’s NutroxSun provides greater sunburn resistance and skin elasticity and reduces skin wrinkle depth and skin cell oxidation for better sun and anti-ageing protection, according to the results of a large-scale clinical trial.

The natural ingredient developed by Monteloeder is a blend of natural grapefruit and rosemary extracts. Its powder form makes it easy to use in applications such as dietary supplements and functional shots and beverages. The company will present NutroxSun on Stand F51 at Vitafoods Europe, which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from May 5 to 7. 

The study, which was conducted in Italy by an independent laboratory and included 105 subjects, measured the effects of UV light exposure on three groups given dietary supplements containing either 100mg or 250mg of NutroxSun or a placebo. After two weeks of exposing the skin on the backs of the respondents to UV light, the researchers noted a 2.9% to 3.3% increase in skin elasticity among subjects given NutroxSun groups compared with a decrease of 0.1% in the placebo group. The skin elasticity improved by 5.5% to 5.8% in the NutroxSun groups after one month, as opposed to just 0.8% in the placebo group.

In terms of wrinkle depth, the NutroxSun groups revealed a reduction of 8.8% to 9.1% after two weeks and between 12.6% and 13.4% after a month. The wrinkle depth increased by 1.2% in the placebo group after two weeks, and decreased by 2.2% after a month.

Lipid peroxidation, a measure of oxidation of the skin cells, slid down by between 9.7% and 10.2% among the NutroxSun groups after two weeks, and by 16.2% and 16.4% after a month. Among those taking the placebo, lipid peroxidation jumped by 5% after two weeks and 5.4% after one month.

The latest study, which will continue with the report outlining two-month results expected soon, affirms an already strong body of evidence demonstrating NutroxSun’s efficacy in providing skin defense from within.

According to Monteloeder director Fernando Cartagena, “Previous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of NutroxSun at 250mg a day, and this trial confirms this once again. However, it’s noteworthy that a 100mg dose works just as well. This means it’s possible to create dietary supplements that are easier for consumers to take – for example in one capsule instead of two – and which cost less to produce without any negative impact on the effectiveness of the product.”

Cartagena acknowledges that the recent study is an unusually large trial for this field of nutrition.

“We’ve been delighted with the positive results, which have been greater and have been demonstrated more quickly than we’d expected. We’re also pleased to see that similar results were achieved for both the 100mg and 250mg doses, with the statistical difference between the two considered insignificant across all three of the these anti-ageing parameters,” he said.
