WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN – The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved VBOX, Inc.’s Trooper portable oxygen concentrator for prescription oxygen therapy. The device will be released in the second quarter of 2013, and is targeted for patients with oxygen prescription who desire to have a more active lifestyle.
The portable oxygen therapy device is the first truly wearable, full-range concentrator in the market. It is capable of delivering a pulse of one to five liters per minute flow equivalence. The device is the size of a small pair of binoculars and weighs only three and a half pounds with its battery. The device comes with two half-pound batteries that together deliver a six-hour running time.
“The Trooper is a major technological breakthrough for medical oxygen therapy and we are thrilled to bring this device to our patients,” said VBOX chief executive officer William Still. “For many medical conditions that require oxygen therapy, exercise and movement is key to maintaining lung function, so a truly wearable oxygen therapy solution will make a significant difference in the quality of life for these individuals.”
The FDA determined the VBOX Trooper oxygen concentrator is substantially equivalent to legally marketed predicate devices and is approved for use on a prescriptive basis by patients requiring supplemental oxygen. It supplies a high concentration of oxygen and is used with a nasal cannula to channel oxygen from the concentrator to the patient. When available in 2013, The Trooper may be used in home, institution, vehicle and various mobile environments.
