NORDENIA wins German award

Every year, the German Packaging Institute seeks out and honours the best creative ideas in the packaging industry. In the recently concluded Awards ceremony, NORDENIA was nominated for two products, one of which bagged the award for the successful implementation of a concept to produce innovative foamed films. The winning material is the Nor?Cell film which is especially suitable for applications in the food, pet food and hygiene sectors. It is manufactured using a patented foaming process from the Mucell company.

NORDENIA is the first company to implement Nor?Cell technology in flexible packaging, according to the Institute. By using a physical, controlled foaming process, the technology reduces the weight of flexible packaging without decreasing the film thickness. These ‘lightweight’ films weigh up to 40% less than conventional films.

“We are very pleased to receive an award for this innovative approach,” said Dr Herbert Bader, R&D manager who accepted the prize with project manager Matthias Perick. “This is a clear sign that we should focus more intensively on technologies that make the manufacture of intelligent, sustainable films possible.”

The second nominee was food packaging for high pressure processing. Both products were designed by the Group's R&D arm, NORDENIA Technologies GmbH and brought to market maturity with the help of selected manufacturing sites.
