Octal triples its capacity for PET resin

Global packaging leader, Octal is now the largest single site PET producer in the world after it commissioned two of the largest existing vertical reactors at its PET complex in Salalah, Sultanate of Oman. The setup will enable the company to triple its annual capacity for PET resin to a total system output of over 1 million metric tonnes of PET bottle grade resin.

“This milestone is a watershed for us. It signifies that Octal is committed to the PET resin industry downstream and has the financial means and the organisation to execute on this kind of growth,” said William J. Barenberg Jr. “This large addition of capacity gives us a stronger competitive advantage to serve the growing global demand for high performing PET resin and sheet.”

The company is now halfway through its investment plan with additional capacity scheduled for 2015 and 2016. When complete, the site will manufacture a total of 2.5 million tonnes per year of PET resin and its primary raw material, PTA. Octal has set the global benchmark not only in superior product quality and sustainability, but also in productivity and cost efficiency.
