AN EXPERT jury of 40 design professionals appraised 4,815 entries vying for a Red Dot Award for design concepts and prototypes. This year, the Red Dot for excellent product design went to 1,120 products and the Honourable Mention for especially refined detail solutions to 123 products.
The award-winning design of Oerlikon’s PHOENIX L500i leak detector delivers special features for additional customer benefit and best-in-class performance
Amongst winners, the PHOENIX L500i leak detector from Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum was considered an intelligent and innovative design. As the vacuum market features a multitude of leak detectors from many suppliers, the new design had to deliver special features for additional customer benefit and not just the technical parameters, which deliver best-in-class performance. Vacuum leak detection is an integral solution and fully complementary to achieve and maintain the vacuum in technically complex systems.
Developed by Christian Bunse, the design concept combines high technology, function and aesthetics. The compact housing has aerodynamic lines for an almost futuristic look and feel, distinguishing it from current products on the market. It is also easy to manoeuver into tight work spaces.
The handle is placed beneath the top of the housing so that it does not interfere with the work area around the leak detector whilst also keeping with the smooth contours of the outer housing. The simplified controls have been optimised and positioned with ergonomic considerations in mind.
The iPad tablet can be removed from the console and used as a mobile remote with the same functionality. The user interface ensures an intuitive, secure and simple handling of the leak detector.
Oerlikon will introduce the design at the Analytica in Munich from in 1-4 April, together with its TURBOVACi turbo molecular pump series recently launched at the Pittcon Conference & Expo in Chicago.
The results of the Red Dot Awards were announced on 24 March 2014.Hombre
