One-stop-shop halal zones to rise in Dubai

Dubai is closer to becoming the world’s capital for Islamic economy, after the announcement that it will be establishing halal zones in Jafza.

The Economic Zones World, together with the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre, plans to create two halal zones in Jafza to serve local and international consumers, according to a report by AME Info Services. The project is part of the EZW’s initiative to develop Dubai into the global hub for halal products, and eventually position the city as global Islamic economy capital, in line with the goals set by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The halal zones in Jafza will support state-of-the-art infrastructure and will be designed to cover all the requirements of consumers in the halal supply chain. EZW is seeking collaboration with associations, accreditation bodies, advisory firms, etc, to support this value chain.

The halal sector is one of the seven key pillars of the Islamic economy worldwide. The EZW, a global developer of economic zones, technology, logistics and industrial parks under the Dubai World Group, has more than 700 companies from the food & beverage, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, which together generate close to AED 16.8 billion annually.
