Online shop for fresh loose leaf tea

Teasenz, an online tea shop based in Hong Kong, brings to the world the variety of fresh loose leaf tea produced in China

Fresh loose leaf tea from China is one of the best in the world, but in many cases they can lose their freshness or end up broken during shipment. Traveling across the globe, these tea leaves are usually packed in bulk from the source, and then undergo reprocessing and repacking – a process that reduces the taste and aromatic qualities of the product.

Farmers are also concerned about the quality degradation of their teas as a result of bulk shipping and repackaging.

Teasenz, a Hong Kong-based online market for fresh tea leaves grown in the mainland, aims to take away some of the steps that damage the tea. The tea shop packs loose leaf tea in individual bags and sends these directly to the customer. The system cuts shipment time, and up to 70% off from the price of regular teas sold in tea stores.

“Individual shipment from China to end-customers can cost tea companies outside of China a fortune, but we're able to provide this service at a low cost because we are located at the source where loose tea is produced," says Lisa Lin, public relationship manager of Teasenz. The result is high quality loose teas which Teasenz can offer at very competitive prices.

Whilst most loose black teas and pu erh teas can generally be stored for a long time without losing flavour, green and white teas are more delicate and should be packed and sealed in a cool and dry place as soon after it is produced. Delicate teas are not suitable for bulk shipping. This is the reason why Teasenz offers teas directly sourced from farmers in Chinese tea regions such as the West Lake area near Hangzhou and the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian. "After buying loose tea from farmers, the aromas are directly sealed and captured in our tea pouches," says Ms Lin.
