Organic-certified plant extracts for supplements

Source:Ringier Food Release Date:2016-05-03 573
Food & Beverage
A Finnish-Norwegian producer of plant extracts sources its raw materials from the pristine Arctic; these are suitable for supplements and superfoods

EEVIA OY is a Finnish-Norwegian company that produces standardized plant extracts from uncultivated, wild-growing plant raw materials such as lingonberries (also known as Cowberry), bilberries (high anthocyanin content), chaga (medicinal fungi that grows on birchtrees) and pine bark (rich in antioxidants) growing in the pristine Arctic forests in the Finnish-Lapland.

According to Eevia, these extracts are extremely potent ingredients ideal for supplements and superfoods. They contain extremely high and standardized amounts of active nutrients such as polyphenols, flavonoids, antioxidants, beta-glucans. The science is suggesting that these components may contribute to stronger immunity, reduced inflammation, healthier heart and improved metabolism. Eevia provides their extracts both in liquid and powder form. Standardized extracts enable convenient dosages, ideal for the dietary supplements, functional beverages and superfoods.

Euroleaf organic certification

Recently, the company received the Euroleaf organic certification for its product portfolio of wild Arctic plant ingredients, all of which will be showcased in full scale at the Vitafoods Europe show in May 10-12 in Geneva.

The Organic certification will be the future norm within plant-based supplements, and Eevia is committed to being the forerunner with more authentic, ethical and transparent natural health products – already demanded by the consumer. Misleading claims, non-authentic ingredients and confusing labels are increasing consumer skepticism within natural supplements. With our organic certified ingredients, customers can reinforce consumer trust with an easily recognisable 3rd party verified symbol, according to Eevia Oy CEO, Stein Ulve.

Ninety-nine percent of all Finnish-Lapland forests are organic certified. Organic certification of wild forest raw materials gives even further assurance of their origin, authenticity and traceability, and guarantees the natural forest biodiversity is preserved.

The organic certification creates an opportunity for marketers of natural supplements to stand out positively in the crowded supplement market. Certified organics meet the gap between the desire for natural solutions, and authentic trustworthy nutrition. Arctic origin simply helps make a product as pure and organic as possible, adds Stein Ulve.

According to the Mintel GNPD database, today only 10 percent of all launched supplements are organic, yet the segment grew 20 percent in 2015.

New name

Previously known as Fenola Oy, the company changed its name to Eevia Oy in January 2016 as part of a major effort to commit solely to natural and organic Arctic ingredients. The word “Eevia” translates to “new life”. Its production facilities are located in Kauhajoki and in Seinäjoki, Finland, close to the source of raw materials.  Short value chain controlled by Finnish-Norwegian Eevia together with organic certification gives assurance of the origin, authenticity and traceability.
