GROWTH opportunities in health and nutrition are attracting investments in emerging markets where the ageing population is on the rise. Trends also show a new business that is developing just between the food and pharmaceuticals industries.
According to packaged food company, Nestlé, it is strategically moving in this direction. Having extensive experience in food and nutrition, the company plans to fill the gap by increasing nutritional research into gastrointestinal health up to Alzheimer’s disease. Nestlé foresees such business to generate $10.5 billion in sales annually. In an interview with Reuters, Greg Behar, the chief executive of Nestlé Health Science said the opportunities lie in new product development and market expansion. The company has 40 projects in progress, Mr Behar said. As it proceeds with its nutritional therapy business, it will be in talks with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
