A packaging for instant soft boiled egg

THE New Egg Company under its brand Yowk offers soft boiled egg on the go, thanks to a packaging design that allows consumers to enjoy a protein-packed snack in five minutes.

The new brand sought the expertise of RPC Design and RPC Bebo UK for the packaging that of course allows Yowk to offer the soft boiled egg in a pack that also includes bread sticks, a spoon and seasoning.

To enjoy, consumers remove the lid and contents, leaving the egg, and fill the container with boiling water. After five minutes, the egg is ready to eat. The lid doubles as an egg cup, while the spoon has small sharp ‘tooth’ to remove the top of the egg.

RPC Design used a two piece pack thermoformed in polypropylene, compromising a round pot and snap-on lid. The base of the pack incorporates a hollowed out section for the egg to sit in, while the ‘egg cup’ shape of the underside of the lid fits over the egg in the pack, ensuring it remains stable during transit.

The overall size of the pack ensures that the exact volume of boiling water is added each time. This was critical as too little water would not heat the egg enough while too much would carry on the process and solidify the yolk.

To ensure a final pack that won’t distort or deform when water is added to the package, RPC Design sought the help of the technical team at RPC Bebo UK. The design ensures consumers can comfortably pick up and handle the pack.
