The company, which showcases locally grown ingredients in craft beer, receives designation from North American independent verification body.

A company with a concrete vision to produce only beer made from non-genetically modified ingredients, Peak Organic Brewing has made it to the headlines as the first to receive Non-GMO Project verification this March.

The craft brewer from Maine grows its own ingredients in farms that don’t use chemical pesticides and fertilisers. “We found those organic ingredients to be of higher quality and integrity,” said founder Jon Cadoux. He said Peak has been non-GMO from the start and is delighted to receive the official designation from the Non-GMO Project.

Aside from producing organic beer, Peak is helping move the GMO food issue forward. It has partnered with the Just Label It campaign, a coalition of some 650 organisations and 300,000 members in the US, demanding for the mandatory labelling of GMO foods.

“People want to know more about their food and drink choices, not less," Mr Cadoux said. “They want to know what’s in the products they buy, and how they are made.  We think that's a great thing.  We're not trying to tell people what they should eat or drink.  That is up to them.  When it comes to GMOs, we just think people should have the right to know, and to choose for themselves.  It's really that simple.”
