The 23rd Manufacturing Technology World expo is open from August 18 to 20, 2016 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, SM Mall of Asia Complex, Philippines.

As the Philippines' largest and most comprehensive manufacturing technology trade show in the Philippines, Manufacturing Technology World features Metal, Hardware and Woodmach and Philtronics among its concurrent events. Being the premier annual event for the manufacturing industry, it draws visitors and exhibitors from all over the country annually. It serves as a focal point for suppliers of manufacturing machineries, equipment, and services to showcase their innovative and highly competitive products to senior decision-makers in Asia.

This year, Manufacturing Technology World features the latest in industrial machinery and automation as the trend toward smart manufacturing sweeps Asia. Industry expects expect high demand for machinery and industrial equipment, and anticipate more foreign investment inflows to the Philippines. Renewed confidence of foreign investors shifted their mother production facilities and regional manufacturing plants to the country. Some of these foreign investors are from Japan, U.S.A, South Korea, Singapore, Britain, Germany, Netherlands and Taiwan.

The Philippines remains one of the fastest growing economies in the ASEAN region. It grew at its quickest pace in three years last quarter, as reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority. The country’s gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 7% year on year in the three months ending June, up from the 5.9% recorded in the same period last year. The second-quarter GDP growth brings the first-half expansion to 6.9%, faster than the 5.5% in the same period last year and within the government’s full-year target range of 6-7%. Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M. Pernia said the second-quarter expansion means the Philippines is likely the second-fastest, if not the fastest in the Asian region, given China’s 6.7%, Vietnam’s 5.6%, Indonesia’s 5.2%, Malaysia’s 4% and Thailand’s 3.5%. Only India is forecast to grow at an equally fast 7%. This optimism has sent positive signals to all industries in the country.

At Manufacturing Technology World, the Manufacturing Engineering Seminar is once again held and organized by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). This seminar aims to be a continuous development for the stakeholders in the industry. Also, a Robotics Competition will also be another highlight.

Product highlights
Among exhibitors at this year’s event was Widin Co., Ltd from Korea. Since 1988, it has been providing cutting tools including end mills, corner radius end mills, and roughing end mills with flutes ranging from one to three, to worldwide markets. Under the Alu-Wave Series, the company offers a number of tool models with various diameters, cutting lengths, and shank diameters. These are for aluminum, allow, copper, non-ferrous materials and plastic. Widin also supplies tools for general cutting applications as well as for slotting and side cutting.

At the show, Sinfonia Technology from Japan was represented by its subsidiary, Sinfonia Technology (Singapore) Pte Ltd., said sales/marketing executive Tan Zhi Zhong. The company manufactures vibrating equipment such as vibrating conveyors, electromagnetic feeders, vibrating screens, dryers and coolers. For automotive testing systems, it offers verification technologies that support hybrid electric cars and fuel-cell cars: unit evaluation systems for electronic cars, power train evaluation systems, motor evaluation systems, and vehicle crash testers.

Sinfonia offers clutches and brakes as well as servo-actuators for various applications including industrial robots, manufacturing facilities, and medical equipment, and drug manufacturing equipment.

The parts feeder from Sinfonia can handle workpieces of various sizes

At the trade show, the Singaporean subsidiary exhibited the parts feeder in both single- and dual-motion versions that can be used in the food, casting and recycling industries.  The dual motion feeder boasts quiet, fast and smooth volumetric feeding, according to Mr Zhong. The feeder handles products without bouncing. Feeders can convey small workpieces (e.g. 10mm or less), such as electronic chips, metal parts, parts for medical and electronic equipment that can be easily damaged, as well as large-scale components.

Another company which has participated at the exhibition for the past four years is Devex Inc. A specialist in general construction, Devex has become a leading commercial engineering solutions provider in the Philippines, now offering metal pallet racking systems, multi-tier/mezzanine, automated storage systems, long span shelves, boltless shelving, T-Post shelves, and accessories (pallet support bar, row spacers and post protectors).

The company's booth was flanked by a customizable racking system, said Danilo Franco, Marketing Associate - Strategy. This -- as all other systems from the company -- are made of SS400 steel for general structures, with epoxy powder coating and oven baked at 180oC for 30 minutes to ensure no bubbles are formed, added Abigail Castaneda, MHS Sales Associate – Accounts Development Team at Devex.

Ms Castaneda further said that the materials are imported from China but the designs and installations are done in the Philippines. Furthermore, the company's expertise in refrigeration enables it build cold storage warehouses as well. It counts Dole, Selecta, Unilever, B/E Aerospace, and many local manufacturers among its customers.

Industrial Welding Corporation is an established name in the welding industry, with its products exported to some 40 countries.  According to the company, it has approvals from the American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas (France), Det Norske Veritas (Norway), Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping (UK), and the Nippon Kaiki Kyokai (Japan). The company provides shielded metallic arc welding (SMAW) welders, MIG welders, TIG welders, plasma cutter and spot welders, as well welding gear and aids. It manufactures SMAW for high tensile strength steel. These can be used in a number of applications including transmission and distribution of pipelines, high deposition welding of bridges, and steel welding. Its SMAW for atmospheric corrosion resisting steel are applicable in 490N/mm2 class weathering steel of bridges, vehicles and buildings, while SMAW for heat-resisting steel can be applied for welding equipment for Mo steel and carbon steel used at high temperatures.

Among its other materials are submerged arc welding fluxes and wires for submerged arc welding (SAW) for hardfacing; solid welding wire for gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW); oxy fuel gas filler rod for brazing, and flux core wires for flux cored arc welding (FCAW).

Dante Lin, marketing director and Andy Zhang, sales engineer of SWT were on hand to present the company's lighting towers

Another exhibitor at the show, SWT is a supplier of lighting towers. The company from China showcased its K series which operates on a hydraulic system and electrical control and comes with option for remote control.
