Pioneering spirit rewarded

Established in 1966, Chuan Lih Fa (CLF) started with a small capital and a few people. Now, it has grown into an international corporation serving wide international markets with its injection moulding machines. The last five decades saw CLF as it endeavours to establish a brand that would become a shining star in this field. International Plastics News for Asia (IRNA) had the opportunity to interview Mr. Thomas Lin, General Manager of CLF, on how the company has grown into a world-class machinery manufacturer.

IRNA: How would you describe the rise of CLF as a leading machinery manufacturer in the plastics industry of Taiwan?

Mr. Lin: Since out establishment, CLF founders meant to develop high-end plastic injection machines. CLF made the great leap of moving from conventional into high-end models and event started precision injection in Taiwan. Thus, the company has been able to develop more powerful machines with clamping force of 2000 tonnes and injection of 360 oz. This achievement has made us famous in this field. By 1992, CLF’s products were not only purchased by domestic buyers but also by international manufacturers. During that time, international buyers had a lot of doubts about Taiwanese products but because we have shown excellence in our products, and our R&D employees are professional, we were able to set high standards and cast all doubts.

Working with important universities and research centres, CLF developed more precise, better, and bigger injection machines for our customers. This has been proven by an ISO9001 and recognition from the Taiwanese government through many awards. As a result, the promotion worldwide has been successful and now CLF is recognised as a syncronym for high-end injection machine. All these recognitions also ratify the endeavours and dynamism of the Taiwanese industry.

IRNA: What were the recognitions and awards that CLF has received?

Mr. Lin: In the bi-annual TaipeiPlas which is indeed a real international show where a lot of professional international buyers come to give their critiques, their preferences for specific products are as important as the committee’s preference because it’s how the free market works. At TaipeiPlas, the committee awarded CLF for our injection moulding machine and we feel we really deserve this honour as we’ve put a lot of efforts in making this machine really special.

Let me share with you how special the awarded product is. The CLF-350AEPET high circulation multi-mould turnkey electric injection system is developed with extra high speed and extra low speed control for optical forming and light guide plate. These characteristics fulfill the goals of thin-wall and high frequency and thus reduce the cost. It is equipped with Siemens PLC electrical injection system so it has shorter cooling and measuring cycle time. Not only cycle, but even the mould making and ejection time are greatly shortened. In sum, the total production cycle is shortened for about 20%. The applications of this product are wide, such as thin-wall LGP, NB, optical products, IML, and many other precision injection products.

IRNA: Taiwanese companies face competition internationally but how did CLF cope with the situation?
