With a population of 240 million people, the demand for processing and packaging machinery and materials is on the rise in Indonesia. As the country’s leading exhibition for the plastics and rubber industry, Plastics & Rubber Indonesia has been positioned to take advantage of the country’s growing industrial base. The event continues to buck the trend that has affected others in the region as it has been generating strong local and international support. The 2013 edition broke records in terms of exhibitors, international pavilions and trade visitorship. The show grew by 15% in size and 6% in audience highlighting the huge market potential Indonesia has to offer.
“We believe that given the current positive market conditions and growing demand for innovations in the plastics and rubber industries in Indonesia, we are only just beginning to realise the potential of the Plastics & Rubber Indonesia show. As the biggest and most international show for the sector in the biggest market in Southeast Asia, we believe Plastics & Rubber Indonesia has a significant role to play as a regional event going forward.” Wiwiek Roberto, Senior Project Manager at organisers Pamerindo Indonesia.
Plastics and Rubber Indonesia takes place on 20 - 23 November. Concurrent events include the Propak Indonesia, Mould and Die Indonesia and the “Green Packaging Conference” scheduled on 21 November. The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Industry of Indonesia and various associations of plastics and rubber producers as well as packaging groups.
Growing maket for plastic products
With a wealthy middle class of over 30 million, Iindonesia is a bigger market for plastics products than Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore combined. Government policy targets 70% of plastics products to be produced domestically – increasing demand for the latest production technology throughout the country’s manufacturing and processing industries.
Currently the world’s second largest rubber producer, after Thailand, Indonesia aims to become the number 1 producer of rubber by 2020. Its annual production is forecast to reach 4 million tonnes or 31% of the world’s total natural rubber production. The government will utilise the increased revenue to revitalise the rubber processing industry and maximise added value within Indonesia. Efforts are also underway to stimulate the demand for processing technology and production machinery.
