The 11th edition of Plastivision India 2020, organized from 16-20 January in Mumbai, witnessed an upsurge in Indian and foreign participation. The five-day show is organized every three years. Among the highlights was the biggest ever Chinese presence at this year’s Mumbai show edition despite the threat of Coronavirus looming large.
“We have hosted the biggest Chinese presence at the Plastivision India 2020, with more than 300 companies occupying almost 4,000 sq.m. space and around 1,000 people in attendance,” claimed Kailash B. Murarka, Chairman, Plastivision India 2020 (PVI 2020).
The Chinese have reportedly carried out substantial business during the show, which should be the highlight of the show considering lock-down of its several cities. As per organizers, most of the Chinese exhibitors had already confirmed their presence in the next edition of the show in 2023 as India remains one the key growth markets for China.
As part of giving spur to business between India and China, the 4th Edition of Indo-China B2B meeting, jointly organized by PVI & CMEC on 16 January, was attended by over 450 delegates.
PVI 2020 spreads over an area of 110,000 sq.m. with 1,420 exhibitors from 25 countries. The exhibition was organized at Bombay Exhibition Center (BEC) Grounds. Interestingly, the number of exhibitors remains at the last edition level but there is an upsurge recorded in terms of space. The organizers claim around 230,000 visitors visited the show.

Around 550 foreign companies participated at the show and occupied an area of almost 5,000 sq.m. “The overseas participation is up by 50% as international companies exhibited in 2,500 sq.m. during the last edition,” claimed Mr. Morarka. The organizers are now targeting to sell 6,000 sq.m. of space to the overseas exhibitors in PVI 2023. Mr. Morarka further said, “The exhibition has grown by 15-20% in terms of overall space.”
The premier plastics industry show focused on sectors like Recycling, Industry 4.0, Plastics in Medical, Plasti-culture, Solar Energy, start-up pavilion, Job fair and consultant clinic etc. “The show also focused on alternative to single use plastics, circular economy, opportunity to smallest industry stake holder and MSME sector,” said Bharat Vyas, CEO (Exhibitions), All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA).
As part of the concurrent event, a four-day conference on circular economy was also organized in association with Elite plus business knowledge partner attended by over 450 business delegates of national and international repute. Around 200 Indian and foreign speakers presented their papers during the conference.
On amount of business conducted in terms of value, Mr. Vyas confided, “As per preliminary reports INR 30 billion business and queries generated during PVI 2020.” Commenting on the significance of the show, Mr. Vyas added, “PVI presents much-needed platform and opportunity to connect with overseas plastics fraternity, share technological trends, optimization of resources for the domestic audience.”
The dates of the 12th edition of Plastivision 2023 are also announced as the show would be organized in the month of February instead of January from 9-13 February 2023.

On growth expectations of in the next show, Mr. Vyas stated, “We are expecting 10% growth in terms of exhibitors and space.” Interestingly, next edition would likely to witness sizeable Iranian participation as Iran has already confirmed 2,000 sq.m. space for 2023 show.
Plastivision also travelled overseas with one of its version is being organized in the Middle East as Plastivision Arabia at Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates regularly. The show also has one edition in South Africa with few editions organized but discontinued. Now there is a plan to revive the African version again in the near future.
