PMMI president shares trends at interpack 2014

AT A press conference held on 8 May, PMMI president and CEO? Charles D. Yuska, announced the organisation’s plans in trade shows, including its most recent tie-up with IPACK-IMA for the upcoming EastAfriPack in Kenya on 9 -12 September 2014, as well as the launch of Pharma EXPO, which along with PACK EXPO 2014, is scheduled from 2-5 November in Chicago. In 2015, PMMI hasset the first EXPO PACK Guadalajara. These steps reflect the improvement in North American manufacturing. According to Mr Yuska, as manufacturing picks up speed, so do the trade shows.

Touching on trends in manufacturing, he said the application of robotics has increased exponentially. A PMMI’s study on robots usage and trends, robots are projected to be used for 27% of primary packaging for medical devices by 2018, compared to just 3% in 2013. For pharmaceuticals, robots are expected to handle 34% of primary packaging operations, up from 21% in 2013.
