The 5th MEDICALL Expo was inaugurated by Dr. Mayilvahanan Natarajan, Vice Chancellor of Dr. MGR Medical University, at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai, India, on August 6, 2010. Concurrent exhibitions on rehabilitation products and laboratory equipment, Medicallab and seminars were held during the event.
More than 8000 visitors, including hospital owners, distributors, embassy officials, purchasing mangers, hospital administrators and biomedical engineers, attended the three-day expo. Trade delegations from West Africa and Hong Kong were part of the visitors' list. The visitors had objectives of purchasing equipment for their hospitals, learning newer technologies and searching for partners as well as academic exchange.
Around 400 exhibitors from India, China, Taiwan, Germany, Italy and England participated in the show. The exhibitors' objectives on the expo are to meet new clients, to seek agents, to display new products, to serve existing customers and to assess the market potentials.
A wide variety of products, including furniture, OT lights, tables, building materials, ambulance, laboratory equipment, software, endoscopes, ventilators, ICU monitors, modular OT, hospital garments, waste management products, sterilization equipment, radiology equipment and rehabilitation equipment were displayed by local and international exhibitors. Two national and two international seminars were organized. The seminar on audit in hospitals attracted hospital owners from various parts of the country.
The international seminar on Australian accreditation was well received by the hospital heads. The seminar on molecular diagnostics attracted international participants as well. The seminars helped the visitors update their hospital management skills; the exhibition helped the visitors upgrade their hospitals.
