AEC – Asia’s new force
This year is significant for ProPak Asia 2016, as the new ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is taking shape. The AEC aims to establish a more globally-competitive single market and to boost economic ties among the member countries through the reduction of tariffs and by allowing a freer flow of labor and capital across nations. The ASEAN’s 10 economies – Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, plus Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam – are a growing force in global affairs. With a gross domestic product of US$2.6 trillion, the AEC is the seventh-largest economy in the world. The region has a population of more than 620 million, making it the third largest in Asia after China and India.
According to the Regional Trends in Economic Integration, Export Competitiveness, and Inbound Investment for Selected Industries Report, the AEC is coming at a time when it is recognized that investment in emerging markets is more desirable than in the United States and Europe. Global attention has shifted toward this region. Thailand in particular is a very suitable spot for investment as a production or logistic hub.
In support of the processing and packaging industry, ProPak Asia, organized by Bangkok Exhibition Services (BES) Ltd, An Allworld Exhibitions Member, provides a business platform for international and local companies to gain visibility in these markets, showcase their products to professional visitors and network with potential business partners. Opening hours are 10am to 6pm every day.
