The new BiPAP S/T homecare ventilator is cleared for use with patients as young as seven years of age and who weigh more than 40 pounds. BiPAP Average Volume Assured Pressure Support (AVAPS) estimates the patient's tidal volume over several breaths and compares it to the desired targeted tidal volume. The ventilator recognizes if the patient is not achieving the targeted volume and gradually changes the inspiratory pressure to achieve optimum breath comfort and patient/ventilator synchrony.
