Source:Ringier Release Date:2013-05-22 153

With more than QR 20 billion (US$5.48 billion) projects registered for GSAS certification including megaprojects, such as Doha Festival City, BARWA City and Lusail City, Qatar’s innovative and aggressive drive towards sustainable development demonstrates the commitment of a nation to its leader’s vision. In anticipation of Project Qatar - the10th International Trade Construction, Building, Environmental Technology & Materials Exhibition, regional and industry professionals will come together to make contacts and drive future developments in Qatar’s fast developing construction sector.

Key to this important event is the environmental component and the benefits of implementing green building practices and integrating the most innovative, sustainable building solutions on the market in line with Qatar’s aggressive green policies including the establishment of GSAS, the world’s first performance based rating system.

According to Andrew Jackson a Director at SAS International, a leading manufacturer of interior fit-out products and green building solutions, “Green building is something that SAS International has been involved with for many years throughout the Gulf and there are a number of projects in Qatar where our metal ceiling systems have been installed.”

“Our metal solutions can help a building towards meeting LEED/GSAS standards. But more importantly projects are now demanding long term-value of any product balanced with environmental credentials which closely reflects the Qatari government’s own vision for a more sustainable future.”

Due to the increasing knowledge about green building and with government support, developers have pursued green certifications and obtained certification for major projects such as the innovative Qatar National Convention Centre which was built according to LEED gold certification standards and is endorsed by the U.S. green building council.
