A NEW study published in the Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found out that resveratrol, a natural compound found in red wine and grapes, boosts spinal bone density in men with metabolic syndrome and therefore could be a potential treatment for osteoporosis.

Danish researchers studied 66 middle-aged men with metabolic syndrome for 16 weeks, evaluating bone mineral density and signs of bone formation and resorption. The men took a 500 mg or 75 mg dose of resveratrol, or a placebo twice daily.
A 2.6% increase in lumbar spine volumetric bone mineral density and a 16% rise in levels of the bone formation marker bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP) were noted amongst men given a higher dose of resveratrol compared with those who took the placebo.
Metabolic syndrome comprises a cluster of risk factors that increases the chances of developing heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Highsnobiety Sneakers
