Royal Bearing acquires inventory from Sparrows Point Steel Mill

Royal Bearing, Inc., a leading wholesale supplier of industrial bearings with warehouses in Portland, Ore. and Livonia, Mich., announces that it has acquired the bearing inventory from the Sparrows Point Steel Mill in Baltimore, Maryland. Purchased via a sealed bid sale were a broad range of genuine original bearings from manufacturers such as Timken, Fafnir, Sealmaster, McGill, NTN and SKF.

Formerly owned by Bethlehem Steel Corporation, the Sparrows Point Steel Mill was opened in 1889 and was a landmark in Baltimore covering more than 3,400 acres and stretching for miles along the southeast edge of the Baltimore harbor. It employed more than 31,000 workers at one time. 

Over the years, the facility supplied steel for the Golden Gate Bridge, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and hundreds of ships for World War II. After more than 100 years of operations by various owners including Mittal Steel, Severstal, and finally RG Steel, the mill is currently closed and in liquidation.
