BEIJING–SABIC and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), a public research and education institution in China signed an agreement for a strategic collaboration to further research, intellectual exchange and talent development. The multi-million dollars agreement covers a period of five years and will see joint research in the chemical and chemical engineering fields to develop advanced technologies and solutions, with SABIC to bring to market the results of the research.
The agreement was signed in Beijing by Ernesto Occhiello, Executive Vice President, Technology and Innovation, SABIC and Ding Zhongli, Vice President of CAS and President of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS).
This latest agreement marks another step in the research relationships between SABIC and CAS affiliated institutes in China. In addition to research collaborations, the two organisations will work together to jointly sponsor an annual Scientific Forum on Frontiers of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Thefirst Scientific Forum will be held on September 14-15at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP). The collaboration agreement also develops local innovation to drive growth with the establishment of an annual SABIC-CAS Scholarship. It aims at stimulating scholarly pursuits by recognising outstanding scientists, engineers and students from across China.
SABIC has already had several collaborations with CAS institutes. Last December, SABIC and DICP, which is part of CAS, established the SABIC-DICP Research Center for Advanced Chemicals Production Technology, a research center for advanced chemicals production technology to tackle scientific problems and develop new material solutions.
