SABIC has been awarded the Zero Accident Silver Award by the Ministry of Labour in Thailand, in recognition of its achievement in world-class Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) practices in its manufacturing site in Rayong, Thailand. The award was presented to SABIC by His Excellency Phadermchai Sasomsub, Minister for Labour, Thailand, at an awards ceremony held on 3 September 2012.
The Thai Ministry of Labour introduced the Zero Accident Campaign in 2001 to encourage companies to create and maintain a high level of workplace safety. SABIC has been the recipient of the Zero Accident Bronze Award for the last four consecutive years, and clinched the Silver Award this year. Its manufacturing site in Rayong was accident-free for more than three million accumulated working hours in 2011. In addition, the Rayong plant also excelled across 14 workplace safety assessment criteria that the Zero Accident Campaign has established to benchmark EHSS programs of respective companies.
SABIC deploys an EHSS management system called SHEMS (Safety, Health and Environment Management Standard) providing best in class standards for all SABIC facilities around the world to manage process safety, environment, health, occupational safety, security, and emergency preparedness.
Sarun Sungkatavat, Country Leader, Thailand, said: “Winning the Zero Accident Silver Award further validates the hard work and effort of our team at the Rayong Plant in their continuous strive to uphold best-in-class workplace safety practices. Our employees have truly lived out the SABIC brand by thoughtfulness and care for the safety of fellow workers.”
SABIC’s Rayong manufacturing site began operations in 2000 and has made continuous improvements on its EHSS performance. The plant has over 160 employees and contractors. It produces engineering plastics for diverse industries such as electrical and electronics, automotive, and medical appliances.
With a ‘safety first’ mindset, the SABIC team in Thailand invests in 15,000 hours of education and training annually to ensure that all employees and contractors are updated on latest safety programs and best practices for a consistent high level of EHSS excellence. Safety measures, rewards and recognition, and programs such as Behaviour Based Safety (BBS), Lockout Tagout (LOTO), Contractor Management, and EHS Concern Reporting are implemented to reinforce and inspire employees to attain the highest safety standards at the worNIKE
