SABMiller invests in SurePure photopurification

GLOBAL leader in liquid photopurification, SurePure, Inc. (OTCBB: SURP) has set up its proprietary technology in a SABMiller brewery in Gabarone, Botswana. This is a third installation for SABMiller, which has one in each of its breweries in Johannesburg and Pretoria, South Africa.

The SurePure UV Photopurification technology is an innovative method for treatment of process water in brewing. It uses UV-C light to purify microbiologically sensitive liquids such as wine, fruit juice and milk. It also works for clear and turbid liquids. Since heat is not used to prevent microbial spoilage, SABMiller has been able to reduce energy consumption at its breweries.

In July 2014, the company, through its sustainability programme, Prosper, pledged to lower the carbon footprint of its value chain, from grain to glass, by 25% per litre of beer and 50% average across all its breweries.
