Rio Tinto Iron Ore has confirmed to proceed with Sandvik Mining and Construction as the preferred supplier of mobile machines for the iron ore capacity expansion to 283 million tonnes per annum in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. This capacity expansion project includes the delivery and commissioning of nine Sandvik mobile machines before mid 2013 at several ports and mine sites in the Pilbara and several machines in the year thereafter. As the largest mining project ever undertaken in Australia, it confirms Rio Tinto's strength as Australia's long-term supplier of iron ore. Rio Tinto is a global leader in the exploration, mining and processing of minerals and metals, including aluminium, copper, diamonds, energy products, gold, industrial minerals and iron ore.
