Comprised of six warehouses, which can simultaneously manage approximately 28,000 product lines, or US$27.7 million worth of stock, the newly-opened site is intended to provide faster and more efficient service to its African clients.
The distribution warehouse is the company’s fourth, with other facilities strategically situated in the Netherlands, the U.S. and Singapore.
Sandvik regional logistics manager Rodger Winter explained, “Over the course of 2011, our logistics partner travelled 5.3mn km while delivering stock items to southern African customers.”
With regards to the new distribution, he added, “We can [now] source and ship the required item within 24 hours and 85 percent of these customers receive their required parts within six hours of requesting them.”
