Gems Sensors & Controls (Gems) is a worldwide leading manufacturer of level switch products, pressure switches, pressure transducers, flow switches, miniature solenoid valves, proximity switches, and liquid level control units for use in a broad range of fluids across industries.

The Gems story began in 1955 when founder Edward H. Moore developed a level indicator in his basement, which was then patented in 1959. Along with an associate, Gordon Seigle, he established Gems Company (GS for Gordon Seigle and EM for Ed Moore). Gems' first commercial success was a bilge switch for the small boating industry. Rapid acceptance of Gems' products for marine and industrial applications led to continual expansion of facilities and staff.

Today, Gems designs and manufactures a broad portfolio of liquid level, flow and pressure sensors, miniature solenoid valves, solid-state electronics, and fluidic systems. Gems is a division of Danaher Corp., a Fortune 500 company, and has five manufacturing facilities across North America, Europe, and Asia and supports sales, engineering, and service offices around the world.

In 2010, Gems Medical Sciences was established as a focused division of Gems to provide a dedicated resource for medical OEM customers. Medical Products Portfolio

Sensor Products. Gems manufactures products that have the ability to sense, monitor, or measure level, flow, pressure, temperature, and conductivity. Sensor products can be a simple sensor or a complex fluid handling system.

Control Products. Controlling fluids is critical to any fluid handling system. Gems designs and manufactures key control components, including direct-acting solenoid valves, isolation valves, pinch valves, diaphragm pumps, peristaltic pumps, centrifugal pumps, and micro-dispensing/metering pumps.

Fluid Handling Products. Minimizing leak points and identifying the shortest fluid pathway are the first two criteria to consider when designing a system. Gems offers simple to high-precision manifolds; tubing and tubing sets; connectors; bottles, containers, and reservoirs; and suction/siphon tubes. Gems utilizes the fluid connection that simplifies the design, uses the smallest footprint, and lowers costs. Design, Manufacture, and Delivery Concept
Gems' success concept begins with strong processes, well-constructed plans, and a clear understanding of client's objectives. At Concept, Feasibility, and Project Plan phase, understanding the project objectives is critical. Project goals, user requirements, and functional specifications are defined. Proof of concepts demonstrating product feasibility are developed. Tradeoffs between various design approaches and solutions are examined. Potential intellectual property is indentified.
