The Aerospace Industrial Technology Matching show held in Taichung during the 16th to 20th of June was the first aerospace industry specific theme-show to incorporate machine tool manufacturers in the exhibition. Organized by Economic Daily News, the most senior financial and economic news press, the show opened up a wide array of imagination for the exhibitors and visitors to envision how Taiwan, the top five global exporter of machine tools explores different possibilities in the field of aerospace. In spite of the successful arrangements of the exhibition itself, the show provided a great platform for the machine tool manufacturers in showcasing their latest innovations regarding the trend of aerospace manufacturing; furthermore, it was a chance for the exhibitors and visitors to acknowledge the developmental strategy of Taiwan’s government by strolling through the booths of key national-led technology institutions. In general, this is a show of reflections combining ideas of how the industry can come together align with the ‘AIM’ plans, or any novelty for the manufacturers themselves. Over 20000 visitors attended the event, creating a great scene of interactions between the manufacturers and users.
During the show, I got an opportunity to speak with SEYI machinery, the senior press manufacturer in Taiwan. The interviewee, Group President of SEYI Mr. Cyrus Kuo emphasized that SEYI, like many other machine tool manufacturers in Taiwan was built on the foundation of automotive manufacturing, which accounts as one of the large shares between applications in the electronics, medical and agricultural manufacturing fields. Today the manufacturer makes sure that their servo advanced presses are at the forefront of the industry, leading manufacturing industry into a better, greener, and eco-friendly future. Noting that the Servo presses saves up to 30-50% energy consumption.
Being the first to develop servo presses in Taiwan, this unorthodox press is excellent at solving customers’ problems at the shop floor. Besides from being able to stamp complicated geometric parts and assemblies, the machinery operates with low friction, less heat and thus resulting into an overall increase in the die life as well as tolerance. SEYI’s Servo presses embody many major concept of aerospace manufacturing says Group President Kuo. That is to say, aerospace parts manufacture has the feature of complicated, small amount production with the most precise standard applied. Furthermore they must have long lifespans. The Servo presses perfectly gain their position under this trend in aerospace manufacturing. It is well-known to SEYI’s users that SEYI’s presses processes special composite materials, or applied very smoothly in the high rigidity metal working industries.
Group President Kuo emphasized that the particular demand in metal forming, and in meeting the requirements in light and slight processing of metals can be accurately operated by SEYI’s Servo presses. The capacity of SEYI’s press can thus easily fulfill the pursuit of quality and values of investments from customers.
As for the smart features embedded in order to link the manufacturers and clients’ demands closer, SEYI has a complete system to monitor the entire manufacturing belt - including supervising the quality of work pieces, and a series of automatic settings from preparation throughout the work pieces are handed to the customers. These features are there to ensure that on one hand the hard techniques are operated under their best condition (e.g. molds preservation), and the other hand, securing the requests from customers. In this process, a better relationship between manufacturers and the clients will be established, gradually, the quality of the industry principally.
Speaking to Group President Kuo certainly jointed the dots on the inquiries on how machine tools can demonstrate their roles in the take off of aerospace manufacturing. If there is a particular significance to take away from this interview, it will be on the determinations shown from how a manufacturer steps into a new industry and opened up the market with flows of innovations. This is a crucial purpose for the first aerospace specific machine tool exhibition in Taiwan, and unquestionably a required condition if the machine tool industry wants to achieve a foreseeable future in aerospace manufacturing.
