The Chinese maker of moon cakes opts for 1000 line ink jet printers for coding and marking

CHICAGO, Illinois, USA – Shanghai XinHuaLou Food Co., manufacturer of the XinHuaLou moon cakes in China, has invested in Videojet Technologies Inc.’s 1000 Line continuous ink jet (CIJ) printers for high speed coding and marking on packaged food products.

The advanced 1000 line printer has features to increase production output and reduce costly delays. The CleanFlow? printhead on the ink jet printer has an auto cleaning function and positive air delivery feature to protect it from dust. It also eliminates ink clogging that could lead to machine shut-down. The feature extends time between preventive maintenance as well as allows flexibility to plan maintenance, based on production schedules, and enables quick start up even after extended shut down.

“As our production volume increases, it is critical that we improve our operational efficiency in order to meet our daily production targets. Our older printers were just not up to the challenge. They would go down two to three times per week and sometimes for a half day at a time. That was just unacceptable. We have seen a dramatic change with the 1000 Line,” said Ms Zhang Ting, equipment supervisor of the Production Engineering department. “Our codes consist of a production date, expiration date and occasionally food additives. This means that we typically change the code on each line multiple times per day. The printers are very user-friendly. Changing messages on the printer is very easy to do.”

The 1000 line printers interface displays all the printer operation information, as well as what is exactly being printed on the screen. XinHuaLou’s product codes consist of a production date, expiry date and occasionally food additives that need to be changed on each line several times in the day. The user friendly interface allows operators to change messages very quickly and accurately, thereby optimising overall operational efficiency and ensuring correct coding and marking on products.
