Shiseido Taking Further Steps to Ensure Material Safety

With regard to trends in cosmetic product consumption, in addition to the expansion of the natural- and organic-oriented segment, expectations are also increasing toward reassurance and safety, including traceability.At the same time, global competition is intensifying each year and new players are entering the cosmetic field from different industries.

Amid such circumstances, Shiseido made the decision to establish the plant cultivation test facility and farm within the company’s premises and start the development of plant raw materials that are traceable to their source.in order to pursue the beneficial effects and efficacy of products as well as manufacturing in order to deliver safety and reassurance to customers.

Now Shiseido has started to conduct trials on a new plant cultivation test facility established in December 2012 at its Kakegawa factory. The plants will be grown efficiently as raw materials for active ingredients, for use in Shiseido's products.

This will allow Shiseido to market its products as ones that contain ingredients that are traceable to their source. The earliest we'll see these ingredients being used in products is 2014.
