The introduction of the Tiger?tec?Silver high-performance cutting tool material is in full swing. The majority of Xtra?tec? mills can already be equipped with the new silver teeth. Thanks to a new CVD coating technology, Walter has managed to pack two seemingly contradictory cutting material properties into one insert, namely high wear resistance and extreme toughness.
With this, Tiger?tec?Silver is taking a decisive step towards the "ideal cutting tool material." The new black and silver inserts are currently available in the cutting material WKP35S, and their outstanding properties have been confirmed in numerous tests, for example, machining X22CrMoV12-1 turbine blades. Here, increases in tool life of up to 100% were achieved compared to the previous benchmark.
Since the introduction of the first "silver teeth" onto the market in 2009, production at Walter has been in full swing. Tiger?tec?Silver is now available for the following Xtra?tec? mills:
> New HPC mill F4030
> Face mills F4033, F4047, F4048
> Porcupine cutters F4038, F4138, F4238
> Shoulder mills F4041, F4042, F4042R
> Side and face mills F4053, F4153, F4253
> Heptagon cutter F4045
> Octagon cutters F4080, F4081
> Cartridge mill F2010 (depending on the cartridge)
On top of the range of tool options, the cutting material also has another important property: it is suitable for dry and wet machining of steel and cast iron workpieces. The field of application for Tiger?tec?Silver is therefore extremely broad, extending across all areas of the metal-machining industry.
