Singapore's manufacturing output rises 12.6%

Singapore's manufacturing output went up by more than expected in December 2011. Manufacturing output jumped 12.6 percent from a year ago, the Economic Development Board (EDB) said. For the month of December, the transport engineering cluster reported growth of 15.1 percent year-on-year, led by a 19.2 percent expansion in the marine & offshore sector.

Output in precision engineering was also up by 15.1 percent year-on-year. However, electronics output remained depressed, dropping 22.8 percent in December from the previous year. The EDB said that for 2011, electronics output fell 13.3 percent compared to 2010.
