Serious head surgery and subsequent convalescence a few years ago convinced Sinwannai founder and President Chen Guanzhi to concentrate his company research and manufacturing on healthcare products for rehabilitation. After more than 18 years in the industry the timing seemed just right, nicely dovetailing with his early career as a physical training instructor and new trends in the medical industry. "It was almost as if fate intervened to give a new direction to my life and business," he says. It has also made him a pioneer in the Taiwan health industry. Having learned about this medical technology academically "I saw the prospects and have been proven right." Therapeutic beds with a combination of movable parts are main products for a business that has gone ahead in leaps and bounds in Taiwan. They are used by patients both in hospital and the home with many families using the equipment "as a part of their regular lifestyle. For a relatively small company with five engineers, its footprint in Taiwan has been impressive. All products are assembled in Sinwannai's own factory in Taipei county using components outsourced to local factories. Now, the company is pushing to export to Europe, other Asian countries and the Middle East. "We're into a growth market" he chimes, "and with extended life expectancy these days, we're really optimistic about the future."
