Smallholder advocate wins AGRA prize

THE Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (www.agra-alliance.org) recently awarded Tanzanian nonprofit organisation, Rural Urban Development Initiatives, a prize for outstanding performance in supporting and advocating for smallholder farmers’ development in Tanzania.

RUDI (www.ruditz.org/) promotes entrepreneurship in low-income, rural areas of Tanzania to create employment and income-generating opportunities by establishing small and medium agricultural enterprises. International organisations such as Feed the Future and the Royal Norwegian Society for Development have partnered with RUDI to work with smallholder farmers and has helped build the organisation’s capacity to implement projects.

With a focus on gender integration, RUDI assists small and medium entrepreneurs at the grassroots level to become competitive and profitable, while improving livelihoods for families and farmers associations. (Source: Feed the Future; Photo: Norges Vel)
