Smoothie King Franchises, Inc. will be eliminating added sugars, added hormones, and artificial colors, flavors and preservatives, from 50 smoothie blends. Through its new Cleaner Blending initiative, the leading franchise company has previously stopped using high fructose corn syrup, trans fat, hydrogenated oil, gluten, and ingredients prohibited by any regulatory lists monitored by NSF. It will also introduce non-GMO fruits and veggies.
The franchise with 900 stores worldwide is taking a step further by eliminating Styrofoam cups and replacing these with a new material that is better for the environment, according to Wan Kim, CEO of Smoothie King.
Kim announced this company-wide initiative to more than 1,000 franchisees, corporate employees, and partners at the annual Smoothie King Conference, held in New Orleans. The franchise will be rolling out these updates over the course of the next year and a half.
