A sneak peak at Solid Edge ST7 ASEAN launch

INTERNATIONAL METALWORKING NEWS FOR ASIA is happy to share with you a report that sums up Siemens PLM's Solid Edge ST7 ASEAN launch in seven venues: Bangna, Thailand; South Vietnam; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Singapore, North Vietnam; Bangkok, Thailand; and Manila, Philippines. Large number of design engineering professionals participated in the events, with the Vietnam launch having the highest attendance with 136 participants.

NC programmers have unprecedented visual oversight of advanced machining scenarios to guide toolpath creation with embedded CAMWorks for Solid Edge.

With its aim to become the preferred PLM vendor in ASEAN to achieve the Siemens vision of being the leading industrial software provider for customers in the mainstream engineering sector, the company develops a software to significantly elevate user experience.

New functionality

Solid Edge ST7 includes new functionality that significantly accelerates the product design process. Enhancements to 3D modelling and image rendering enable certain tasks to be performed up to five times faster than the previous version. Additional productivity and efficiency is achieved through enhancements in design management and the Solid Edge user interface. In conjunction with the release of Solid Edge ST7, Siemens’ product lifecycle management (PLM) business is also expanding its portfolio of in-house and third party apps that further extend Solid Edge beyond its core design capabilities. These apps enhance Solid Edge with integrated solutions for standard parts libraries, simulation, and manufacturing and mobile device support. 

New built-in, world-class rendering capabilities in Solid Edge ST7, provided by Luxion’s KeyShot® technology, quickly and easily create photorealistic images and animations from within the modelling environment. These new capabilities provide significant improvement in overall image quality and speed real time photorealistic rendering of native 3D models by up to five times, based on internal testing. 

In addition, new 3D Sketch functionality in Solid Edge ST7 improves efficiency with various modelling scenarios, allowing designers to complete their design processes up to two times faster with greater flexibility. Significant user interface enhancements provide Solid Edge ST7 with the most intuitive operating environment to date. A new start page, focused learning paths, and expanded visual tool tips simplify the learning curve for new users and increase efficiency for expert users.

ASEAN launch focus

The focus of the launch events was to demonstrate the idea Re-imagine what’s possible when you use Solid Edge ST7. A design competition was held during the event to present how the software can take your designs to the next level with faster, more flexible 3D modelling and beautiful photo-realistic rendering. Also during the competition Solid Edge ST7 was able to complete design projects faster with design management that's visual and straightforward. 

On these occasions, participants at the seminar also joined the contest to win the Solid Edge ST7 Design Software Award. The fastest and most accurate edits won the contest. 

The engineers who attended were amazed that so many design edits were possible in such a short duration. They saw first-hand that Siemens delivered on their promise of an amazing user experience.
