Solve the problem of porosity in castings with sealant impregnation

Ultraseal International, the global leader in solving the problem of porosity in castings, is to exhibit at Ankiros 2012 - 11th International Iron-Steel & Foundry Technology, Machinery and Products Trade Fair - in Turkey (Booth E220 in Hall 2) on September 13th – 16th 2012.

Ultraseal has pioneered several breakthroughs in sealant impregnation, the first being the launch of the methacrylate sealant named PC504 that in no understated terms began a radical change in the methods employed for sealing leaking porous castings.  It was the first to introduce the world to recyclable sealants Ultraseal MX2 and the market-leading Rexeal 100.

Today, PC504/66 is the World’s leading non-recycling impregnation sealant with US MIL-I-17563C (Class l and 3) Approval and meeting many other international specifications.  Low shrinkage on polymerisation gives excellent void filling capabilities and low viscosity provides fast and deep penetration into even fine micro porosity.

In addition, to impregnation sealants, Ultraseal produces a variety of impregnation equipment, including both front-loading and top-loading machines, many of which can be easily integrated into a modern production line.  As an option on its range of top loading equipment, a rotational processing system is available to address the long cycle times associated with traditional batch processing impregnation systems and to address the potential for contamination of parts held in static tanks.

In tandem with rotational technology, Ultraseal pioneered the principle of cascade washing, whereby a copious volume of fluid is pumped through a manifold and over the rotating workload. This provides a more aggressive and effective washing action than conventional systems.

Gary Lloyd, Managing Director of Ultraseal International, said: “Porosity in castings can be a major problem for manufacturers supplying the automotive industry, particularly for parts that have to operate under pressure such as compressors.

“Micro porosity in an automotive compressor could cause the entire part to fail and that failure could cost a manufacturer dear if it is not discovered until a late stage in production or – even worse – after a vehicle has been sold to a customer.

"No-one wants to be responsible for a product recall or, less drastically but still significantly, be forced to pay compensation to customers for castings that fail.

"That is why many automotive component manufacturers are now adopting sealant impregnation as a routine quality enhancement stage, integral to production, rather than as a rectification process.”

Ankiros 2012 is being held at the Tuyap Fair & Congress Centre in Istanbul and Ultraseal will be sharing Booth 220, Hall 2 with Petrofer, its Turkish distributor and a leading supplier to the Foundry industry.
