US-BASED consumer packaging company, Sonoco will invest $20 million for the construction of a composite can manufacturing plant for snack packaging in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The new facility, which will serve customers in Southeast Asia, will be equipped with three high-speed composite can lines, two metal end presses, an extrusion laminator for can liners and depalletisers.
“Continued growth for packaged snacks in Southeast Asia requires that we build our third composite can plant in Malaysia,” president and chief executive officer, Jack Sanders told shareholders. “The new facility will be located on our customer's new manufacturing complex and will more than triple our current can production capacity in Malaysia.” Scheduled to operate in 2015, the new can production lines will more than triple production capacity of Sonoco’s plants in Malaysia.
