South African compounder adds engineering polymers to its product range

Continental Compounders (Pty) Ltd has added polypropylene (PP) and nylon (PA66 and PA6) to its product range in an effort to meet growing demand for engineering polymers in the African region. The company has opened a specialized production site for engineering polymers, situated in Westmead, KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.  

George Dimond, CEO of Continental said that the company has been manufacturing PVC compounds for various industry segments for the past 12 years. He added that Continental is now in a position where it is able to expand service offering to new and existing customers with a new range of engineering polymers that consist of local content.   

The new compounds will come in different variations, such as: mineral filled talc and calcium carbonate; glass fiber reinforced; impact modified; flame retardant such as halogen and halogen-free systems; concentrates and masterbatches; and combination filled grades, such as mineral filler and glass fiber, flame retardant and glass fiber, impact modifier and glass fiber will also be available.

Continental has also made significant financial investment into expanding and upgrading its specialized, technical service laboratory aimed specifically at product testing and new product development for both local and international customers.  The expanded testing facility is capable of performing various new tests in the engineering polymer field.

Continental Compounders is committed to the principles and requirements of the International Standard, ISO 9001:2008, and manufactures to ISO quality management systems, which ensures that it maintains the highest standards at all times.  It is also one of the founding members of SAVA (Southern African Vinyls Association), and supports the association’s drive toward international best practice for PVC products and processes.  These include the safe use of additives, notably Heavy Metal Free (HMF) stabilisers and pigments, expanding recycling capacity and programmes, and developing new and sustainable applications in PVC.
