South Africa's manufacturing output up 2.2% y/y in May

South Africa's manufacturing output rose 2.2 percent year-on-year in volume terms in May, from a revised 7.1 percent in April, Statistics South Africa.

On a month-on-month basis, factory production fell 1.7 percent but rose 0.9 percent in the three months to May compared with the preceding period.

Economists polled by Reuters had predicted year-on-year growth of 2.9 percent from 7.0 percent in April. Stats S.A has revised the base year to 2010 from 2005, affecting previous data.
